How to generate an AI Swimlane Diagram
Step-by-step guide on generating a Swimlane Diagram
- Write a prompt describing the business or system process. Use the structure below for good results:
- List the actors such as organizations and roles involved. Organizations will be shown as horizontal pools (e.g. Company, Department, Organization) and roles will shown as lanes within pools (e.g. Customer, Sales Rep, Inventory System).
- Describe the interactions between actors as a sequence of messages. For each step, specify who sends what to whom.
- Include groupings or phases if helpful (e.g. Onboarding, Fulfillment).
- Generate a diagram with the prompt. Each actor will appear as a column, and arrows (messages) will show how work passes between them.
- Edit the diagram with follow-up prompts (requires signing in to Eraser).
- Manually adjust the layout using GUI controls (requires signing in to Eraser).

Yes, the diagrams can be edited in Eraser, a docs and diagram tools built for engineering teams. Click on "Save and Edit Diagram". In Eraser, the diagrams can be edited using Eraser's diagram-as-code syntax.

Yes, you can read our API documentation here. Due to LLM costs, the API is only available to Professional Plan teams.
Will my data be used for LLMÂ training?
No. OpenAI nor Eraser will use your data to train AI models. Eraser may analyze your usage to improve and enhance our AI feature.
