Braintrust creates bespoke architecture diagrams that accelerate customer journeys with Eraser
About Braintrust
Braintrust is the AI observability platform helping teams measure, evaluate, and improve AI in production. By connecting evals and observability in one workflow, teams at Notion, Stripe, Zapier, Vercel, and Ramp use Braintrust to ship quality AI products at scale.
The Challenge
Braintrust sought to standardize diagramming flows and accelerate customer alignment
Like many fast-moving AI startups, Braintrust leans on architecture diagrams to help stakeholders visualize how its observability platform will integrate within company environments. Sales engineers, account executives, and solutions architects alike use these bespoke visual assets to secure customer buy-in, advance deals, and simplify complex technical projects.
However, as the company continued to scale, securing multiple enterprise-level contracts, the need for standardized diagram creation flows shifted from a nice-to-have to a strategic imperative. At the time, teams across pre-sales, engineering, and account management were using several disparate tools for diagram creation, leading to both visually inconsistent and occasionally inaccurate views of Braintrust’s deployment architecture. Additionally, re-creating diagrams across unique cloud environments often meant manually redrawing architectures multiple times, an unscalable and error-prone process.
Jeff McCollum, Customer Solutions Architect at Braintrust, witnessed these friction-heavy workflows firsthand. “We had several different diagramming tools across teams, which meant almost none of our deliverables were consistent,” he shares. “We needed a standardized diagramming flow that we could all share and use while also reducing technical overhead.”
Fortunately, Jeff’s search for a solution that would standardize Braintrust’s diagram creation workflows wasn’t long. After learning that leadership within the company was already experimenting with Eraser, he had all the conviction needed to solidify the partnership.
“In tech, a picture tells a thousand words, especially to stakeholders who aren’t on the front lines. We knew diagrams were key during every customer interaction, but needed a way to ensure every deliverable was clean, accurate, and consistent.”
The Solution
Eraser’s diagram-as-code solidifies the consistency and accuracy of all deliverables
With Eraser’s emphasis on ease of use and self-serve workflows, getting started was a seamless process.
Within weeks, Jeff had already integrated Eraser into his day-to-day, using the solution’s diagram-as-code functionality to generate bespoke, in-depth diagrams with simple DSLs rather than manual drag-and-drop. “Getting started with Eraser didn’t require any ramp time or training,” he shares. “I’ve only had to contact support once to change our icon, and they delivered on that ask almost immediately.”
To ensure consistency across deliverables, Jeff used Eraser to establish a shared architecture diagram that teams can adapt to varying customer environments. Instead of rebuilding diagrams for each deployment, teams can now start from a common foundation and update icons, labels, and components as needed. Not only does this reduce turnaround times for deliverables, even for customers with multiple cloud environments, but it also ensures that all stakeholders are effortlessly aligned, keeping technical conversations focused on implementation rather than explanation.
For projects that fall outside Braintrust’s usual scope, Jeff uses Eraser’s auto-layout to establish a clear visual structure for each bespoke diagram. With only minor refinements needed for each Eraser-generated diagram, he spends significantly less time on manual alignment work that previously plagued his day-to-day bandwidth. “For unique projects, Eraser’s AI-generated diagrams get us at least 80% of the way there,” Jeff shares. “After some small tweaking of the lines and connections, we usually have a customer-ready deliverable within minutes.”
For a fast-moving AI startup taking on increasingly complex projects across multiple stakeholders, Eraser proved to be the ultimate unlock.
“Of the many diagramming tools I’ve used, Eraser was the one that took the least amount of time to generate a presentation-grade deliverable. You can immediately tell it’s a platform built by technical operators, for technical operators.”
The Result
Braintrust unlocks a standardized, automated diagramming flow that accelerates deals and slashes technical overhead
With Eraser, Braintrust equipped its teams with a dedicated AI-copilot that standardizes and automates the diagram creation process from end to end. Rather than spending hours in drag-and-drop interfaces, teams effortlessly communicate complex technical projects to stakeholders in minutes.
As Braintrust continues to scale alongside the rapid expansion of AI products, Jeff expects Eraser’s diagrams to play an even greater role in how the company communicates infrastructure and deployment strategies.
“Eraser will remain an important part of how we communicate complex architecture to our customers. It’s one of the most seamless and intuitive tools within our stack.”
